I am researching an RFP that is due in a couple of days, and I need to know how Hubwatch under HP Open View on Sun OS infers device names in an autopology mode i.e. does the ip addrerss get used or is it the mac? the questions is: "Reguarding Autotopology, since the network management software is implemented down to the card level, how is the system name arrived?" Thanks, Ron

HP/OV's netmon only discovers IP addresses. It uses the IP adresses not mac addresses. HUBwatch for SunOS V3.1 provides oid_to_type, oid_to_sym files, and Hubwatch icon for HP/OV launchability. During the discovery, it figures out that the device is a Digital device and the it associate a "HUBwatch" icon with that device. Sonia | |||||
