Can the latest version of HUBwatch/HUBloader perform hub assisted loads for 900 repeater type modules ? The readme file included with hubloader indicates that repeater loads are supported, however it does not indicate whether the loads are supported directly only, or hub assisted via the MAM. From the hubloader readme file: "The version shipping with NetRider V1.0 is V1.0.0 while the version shipping with HUBloader for Windows V1.0 is V1.0-03. This version is needed to successfully load hub repeater modules and perform the load from list function." This seems to indicate that the correct version of NETrider is required, but does not indicate whether HUBloader supports this functionality. I checked the HUBloader help file and there is no mention of restriction on loading repeater type modules. HUBloader is a "nice" tool, but if it does not support "all" 900 type modules then the customer will be requesting (demanding) a "better" tool. Mike K.

The latest version of HUBloader CANNOT do hub assisted loads of the DECrepeater 900TM, 900GM, 900FP (aka PORTswitch 900FP), 90TS, or 90FS. It is not a problem with HUBloader but has to do with the hardware implementation of those devices. You MUST put an IP address in each of them and do a direct load. HUBloader does support hub assisted upgrades of the new PORTswitch 900TP and 900CP. The reference to the version of NETrider loader is related to some timeout issues with the original version. As an added note you should BE VERY CAREFUL about using hub assisted upgrades. This is how several people have wound up with dead modules. The actual time to upgrade is at LEAST twice what you see when you watch the server pass the blocks. REMEMBER you copy the whole image to the hub manager where it is checked. Then it is copied from the hub manager to the module to update the flash. If at any time during this the flash right power goes off or you reset the module the image is corrupted. |
