| Thanks! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't violating a third-party
software license by just copying and using the kit.

| Can I use HUBloader to load the DECpacketprobe firmware? If so, what
(beyond putting the NS3210.S in the directory pointed to by the
environment variable HUBWATCH_LOAD should I do?
Thanks!

2363.5 | HUBloader can not load your PacketProbe.... | NETCAD::SKABO | Expect Nothing U never disappointed | Fri Jun 09 1995 14:18 | 32 |
| HUBloader can not load your PacketProbe....
From The HUBloader Release notes:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DECpacketprobe 90 Modules
-------------------------
Loading of DECpacketprobe 90 modules can only be initiated from
the console port of the DECpacketprobe 90 module itself. The HUBloader can
not initiate a load of a DECpacketprobe 90 module. However, the TFTP
Server supplied with the HUBloader can service the load request from a
DECpacketprobe 90 module as long as the TFTP Server is running and the
location of the load file is correctly identified through the
DECpacketprobe's console.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--> You need to put NS3210.S (on a DOS system) in:
C:\netrider\load\NS3210.S
First you will need NetRider Loader up (TFTP server)....
Second, on your PacketProbe console set #9 - "Change Server Address" to
your NetRider Loader node IP address.
Then on your PacketProbe console terminal, you need to select #10
"Upgrade Software" - this will erase the firmware in FLASH and then load
the new firmware.
Make sure to #12 "Reset Agent" after the new firmware is loaded on
your PacketProbe.

| Thanks for the information. Yep, I saw 2104.*, but thought that discussion to
specific to NetRider's TFTP and DOS. I'm using Digital UNIX; any instructions
for how to do an upgrade from that platform? Another DIR/TITLE didn't show
anything obviously on that subject.
Thanks!

| Sorry I assumed Hubloader for Windows.
I'm probably as far from being a Unix weenie as you can get however I
have been able to load a DECnis and bridge from Digital Unix.
I edited the /etc/bootptab file and put in the hardware address, ip address,
gateway address, subnet mask, and file. Envoked the boot and it
downline loaded using tftp. You would have to envoke the boot from the
console on the probe. I think the Sharing software manual gives an
example.

| Scott
Thanks for the instructions. Just to further demonstrate my ignorance, why do I
need to fiddle with bootp, when the DECpacketprobe uses TFTP to load?

Oh sure ask another question! I dunno. I don't know unix and end up
RTFMing for each task.

>bootp,
You don't, as you said in your next statement "when the DECpacketprobe
uses TFTP to load?". You just have to ensure that the TFTP daemon is
running and that the load image exists in the area pointed to in the
entry for TFTP in inetd.conf (assuming that you are running it from
inetd and not running it manually)
