2338.0. "Address Filters and DEC Switches" by CX3PST::NOTAMI::A_ANDERSON (CX03 2/H13 NSU/VAX MacGhille Aindrais) Thu Jun 01 1995 20:59
Hello All,
I have a customer with the following configuration
He has a DEC switch PE with a single node (node2) plugged into port 2. And a
another node (node3) plugged into port 3. On port 1 is a IP Gateway.
He needs to keep NODE2 from seeing node3 but allow both access to the IP gateway
on port 1.
We thought he should be able to set up a address filter to do this.
We suggested he block node2's address on port 3,4,5,6,7,8 and allow it on
ports 1 & 2.
Then block node3's address on port 2,4,5,6,7,8 and allow it on port 1 & 3.
But this does not work. After these filters are in place we can still talk via
DECnet and IP between node2 and node3.
We set up the filters using both the Hardware and the MAC address.
Is it possible to do this with any of the 900 bridge produts?
If so how?

| You cannot do this with the existing filtering capability in the
switch.
This will become possible after the Virtual LAN/enVISN upgrade planned
for this product, by configuring two overlapped VLANs. (Sorry, can't
give any firm dates yet!)
