    In order to talk to a PP via the network, you first need to set its IP
    address. In order to to this, you must use the OBM port, which is
    really only a character cell setup port. You need a PERFECT null modem
    cable to get this console to respond. For the life of me, I can't
    understand why this is. I had to resort to putting a MODEM on the port
    and dialing up to it to get it work. I had to set the modem DTR high to
    get it to answer. It is a real pain and I wish they would either supply
    the cable or make the console port less rigid in what signals it needs.

    Re .2

    Where can I get V3.2? Is it in the following :

    NAC::DISK$RAIDSET_3:[NETWORKS.MANAGE.DEMOS.PROBEWAT]

    disk1.dir   disk2.dir

    Also where can I get the V2.3 firmware for my PP? The pointer in 2.0
    shows that the current version is V2.1 (NS3210.S)!!

    Lastly, when you say V2.3 supports SLIP, does it have the restrictions
    as stated in 2334.1? What my customer wants is that he can use his PC's
    com2 port to connect to the probe (console port) and get the statistics
    collected via the probe's 10BaseT port. Will this work with V2.3 ?

    Thanks in advance for further help.

| 2334.5 | modem should only be needed for SLIP | NAC::FORREST |  | Mon Jun 05 1995 11:11 | 13 |
|  |     regarding .2 - V3.2 is available on the network at
    NAC::NIPG:[MANAGE.RMON.WINDOWS.DISK*] It should get released this
    month.

    regarding .1 - I generally connect a VT220 or a PC using the Windows
    terminal emulator via a BC16E (DECconnect Office cable) and an H8571J
    MMJ to 9 pin D adapter; this usually works for me; one time it did
    not work, and I still don't know why. Can you send me mail with the
    configuration that does not work for you?

    PS This refers to using the setup port for setup, not for SLIP.
    Jean-Yves is right - the firmware currently requires full modem control
    for SLIP to work. (This is being fixed).
