Does anyone know any information about the Catalyst Workgroup Switch? We are talking to a customer about a Gigaswitch and they said that they already had a "switch" on order. He faxed me a copy of the P.O. and I've never heard of a Catalyst Workgroup Switch. The description is: Catalyst Workgroup 'Switch 8 10Base-T 8,160.00 Catalyst Enhanced Monitoring Services 2,545.75 CDDI/MLT a/b/ Port Card for WS-C1100 and WS-C1200 1691.50 Crossconnect UTP Cable, 7 foot Now personally, I don't see how this compares at ALL to the GIgaswitch but more likely to the DECswitch 900EF. Does the DECswitch 900EF have a copper interconnect to the FDDI segment? I don't think so, but that's probably a minor point. Does anyone have any information on the Catalyst product and how it may compare to the DECswitch 900EF? I think I can handle the comparison from THERE to the Gigaswitch. Thanks...

It will be able to do this in a standalone configuration when connected to a DEF1H (high end docking station with copper mod pmds installed). Bob | |||||

The Catalyst is the switch developed by cisco's workgroup business unit, formerly known as crescendo communications. They were the people who originally did CDDI. Its like comparing the Queen Mary to a snall sailboat! If they really want a catalyst, the gigaswitch could be overkill. They also have a modular version that has come out, but this sounds like the 8 port version that has been shipping for about a year. If you have a web browser, look at cisco's web pages. They can be found at http://www.cisco.com. That is the fastest way for you to get the most info on this product. |
