    Hi,
    	as a novice to DNS,can someone anwer a simple question for me
    	please ?

    For DECnet/OSI systems to use LAN Multicasts to see DNS Servers,how
    "tightly connected" does the LAN have to be ? If some VAX systems were
    on the AUI side of a DECbridge 90,and the MV3100 DNS Server was on the
    thinwire workgroup side,would the packets pass through for instance ?

    Would I have to configure anything in the DECbridge 90 to make this
    happen ?

    		Thanks in advance    Mick

2291.1Default Bridge will pass DNS M/CMSDOA::REEDJohn Reed @CBO, (803) 781-9571 NIS NetworkerThu May 18 1995 10:527
    YES. Your DNS multicasts will pass right through any 802.3 Bridge.
    You would have to specifically perform some management filtering functions
    to stop DNS from coming through. By default, out of the box the
    bridge 90 will always pass all multicast and broadcast packets (except
    STP, which is a different thread)
