| The original thinking was that, since the setup port did not have
modem control built in, and you had to directly attach a terminal or
terminal emulator, then you had physical security. If you wanted more
you could put it in a locked wiring closet.
We've since heard several requests to put in a password anyway, but we
currently have no plans to do so. One of the reasons is that we have to
provide a back door way of getting in in case the manager forgets the
password - you can't just tell him to throw away the hub and buy a
new one. Once we've documented the password workaround, we've made it
less secure. If we require physical presence to reset the password,
then isn't that similar to what we require to use the setup port
anyway?
