2277.0. "DECrpeater port security problem with destroyed ethernet packets" by UTOPIE::ROBERT (Robert Windisch TSSC-Vienna/Austria @AUI x2563) Mon May 15 1995 08:17
One of our customers logged a call complaining, that the DECrepeater900TM is
"too" secure if he enables port security.
He ran into problems after some transient problem on his twisted pair ethernet
link to one of his DECrepeater900TM ports.
After a clobbered packet, the DECrepeater has catched a (as he thinks) wrong
ethernet address coming in to the port and locks down the port.
Unfortunately, this was only a destroyed ethernet source address, but this in
turn has forced his VAXcluster to a grinding halt.
He has asked me, if we (Digital) can change the DECrepeater security
so, that the port lockdown will only happen after a series of (2 or 3) packets
with wrong source address to prevent the unwanted port lockdowns.
Any comments?
Robert
