I've just been looking at a problem with a MV3600 that would not boot from the network as a Satellite. On searching across the hubs using the FIND ADDRESS using the DECnet address of a node next on the thinwire chain, Hubwatch correctly found the Hub/DR90C/Port the node was connected to. However on searching for the MAC address of the node trying to boot the address was not found. Now the problem with the node not booting was because it was on the wrong segment and the boot node was not seeing the request. However once the thinwire was moved to the correct Hub and the boot request was answered, the FIND ADDRESS using the MAC address worked and identified it correctly. Does this mean that Hubwatch cannot locate a node in the ">>>Boot XQA0:" state.? Giles.

If you're searching for the AA-00-04-00-xx-xx address, then you won't find it until DECnet is up, when it (DECnet) sets it into the interface. Before then you have the 08-00-2B-xx-xx-xx address. (unless I misunderstood what you are trying to do) Mike | |||||

Mike, It was the MAC address 08-00-2b... that the FIND didn't locate even though the MV3600 was sending out request while in the Boot across the network state, however as soon as the request was answered and the normal SYSBOOT "loaded from node ..." came up then the FIND ADDRESS successfully located the machine.
