2190.1STP/UTP, but 100 ohm onlyNETCAD::HERTZBERGHistory: Love it or Leave it!Thu Apr 13 1995 10:214
    Supports 100 ohm STP and UTP. Does not support impedances other than
    100 ohm.

2190.2DR90TS self test question ?GIDDAY::STANISLAUSThu Apr 13 1995 17:5926

    	Customer's requirement:

    	Max of 14 UTP ports at each site and the SNMP manageable DR90TS.

    	So he buys about 200x DR90TS for the several sites.

    	He plans to daisy chain two DR90TS units via UTP cables (not
        Thinwire). This will leave him the 14 UTP ports he needs. This way
    	he saves cost on the more expensive hardware, namely 2 x T-pieces,
        4 x Thinwire terminators and one 50 ohms coax cable per site
        multiplied by 100 sites.

    	Ones he gets the hardware he is surprised that the units will not
    	pass self-test unless either the Thinwire or the AUI port is
        terminated. This means the minimum expense is 200 x AUI loopback
        plugs for his 200 x DR90TS, because these units do no come with
        these plugs.

    	Somewhere in this conference it says that the unit will pass
        self-test if UTP port 1 has a station connected to it. I haven't
        tested this. Is this true ? If yes, does that station need to be
        powered on first before the DR90TS is powered on for the DR90TS
        to pass self test.

    This is news and is abnormal behavior. How many units did the customer
    observe this behavior on? I just went out to the lab and was unable to
    duplicate this symptom.
