2172.0. "dewgb bridge failures" by NCMAIL::RIBNER () Wed Apr 05 1995 12:42

    My customer has some concerns over the failure rate of DEWGB-M,
    DECbridge90's - about 1 every month or so over the last 4 months.
    The units fail w/ "Bridge Forwarding STATE" led on and "burned" smell.
    The DEChub90 works locally ok but no bridging takes place. All units
    have been installed around 4 years ago and are rev A01. Some of the
    closets have been "warm"/poor ventilation but the last was not envir-
    onmentally caused.

2172.1Same problem on different customer siteFRSIT::MAYERThu May 18 1995 04:2010
    Hi,

    I saw exactly the same on my customers site. The bridge also "burned"
    smell. I opened the bridge to check what smells.
    A transsitor (Q1) on a small daughterboard (PN: 2976017101) with a
    transformer on it are burned.

    My be a general quality problem.

2172.2Burnt components on DEWGB voltage converterKAOFS::R_RYANI used to be a coyote but Im ok nowoooo!Mon Jun 05 1995 13:3511
    I am seeing this exact same symptom. I have had 3 of four bridge
    failures with the burnt daughter card in a two week period. The
    daughter card in question is a DC-DC voltage converter. I have asked
    engineering for some assistance (offline) to find out if this is an
    internal issue or perhaps due to some external connection.
    All of the failing units were in seperate hubs on seperate floors. Did
    either .0 or .1 get some sort of answer on this problem or did the
    issue just go away once the failing units were replaced?
    Regards,
    Ron Ryan
