A customer has a new 90M that will not load from flash. He did a boot successfully from the ethernent, as per a load sucess message on the load host. But he can not get terminals to work with it nor can he use RCF. The LED's for the ports flash left four then right four, ie 1-4 flash then 5-8 for many minutes. He did a factory reset no change. Question, is the unit in some mgt test mode ? just broken or something else ? Also why reviewing the 90M manual I noticed a B/M command to request, "the maintenance mode software for the DECserver". (page 2-13 of the 90M OM). Is there further documentation on this ? Larry

RE: .1 I agree. RE: .0 This is normal. The DS90M is decompressing it's load image. That's what the alternating 4/4 LED pattern means. It takes 4 minutes and 20 seconds to decompress the image. We do this so that a 1.25 MB image may be stored in an 1 MB Flash RAM. We call it "investment protection". Nonetheless, it does cause impatience. Regards, Dave |
