2104.0. "how to upgrade packetprobe 90 with Hubloader?" by KAOFS::S_HYNDMAN (Ride life's curves) Tue Mar 14 1995 17:20

I'm confused about the approach I should be taking with upgrading the
software for the DECpacket Probe 90.

I've installed the field test version of Hubloader. I have been able
to start the tftp server and the hubloader application. I have also
been able to use the show button of hubloader to display some
characteristic of my probe.

Do I choose option 10 from the setup port on the probe to upgrade the
software or do I choose the load button from Hubloader?

If I choose option 10 Upgrade software, I see a tftp load request from
the NetRider Loader TFTP server however the probe console says file not
found and aborts the load. I have tried define the load file ns3210.s
to point to local file C:\firmware\ns3210.s and saving the setup but
this doesn't seem to help.

If I choose the load function from Hubloader it says:
TFTP:File Transfer Started
Firmware Version has changed
HUBLOAD:LOAD COMPLETE
DECpacketprobe 90 Ethernet Probe Vers 1.0

How should I be doing this and how can I check what version I'm running
on my probe?

2104.1Have to load through consoleNETCAD::FORINOTue Mar 14 1995 19:2318
Loading of the DECpacket Probe 90 must always be initiated from the
console port. It cannot be initiated by hitting the LOAD button in
HUBloader.

What HUBloader does provide you is the TFTP Server utility to load the
DECpacket Probe 90 once the console kicks the DECpacket Probe 90 into
the state where it requests the load. Your TFTP Server has to be
running in order for it to service requests. Therefore, you need to
click on the TFTP Server icon and fill in the initial information
to get this up and running. (Note this utility also is a BOOTP
server).

Alot of people are making the mistake of assuming that because they
have the HUBloader running they get the TFTP Server by default (those
NDU days are over). The TFTP Server is a seperate utility and has
to be started on its own.

We'll upgrade the READ_ME_.TXT to include this information.

- Packet probe configured with IP address, gateway address, TFTP server
address
- select option 10 UPGRADE SOFTWARE from probe console menu

2104.3try putting image in C:\ directoryNAC::FORRESTWed Mar 15 1995 14:028
Scott, I was able to get the NetRider TFTP server to download my probe.
If I remember, I had to put NS3210.S in the top level C directory to
get it to find the file. I reported this to the HUBloader developer,
who said he would pass it on to the NetRider people.

Let me know if this does not take care of it for you.

2104.4success...on to the next feature!KAOFS::S_HYNDMANRide life's curvesWed Mar 15 1995 16:2119

Jack,

I was not able to get the probe to load by placing ns3210.s in my
top level directory C:\ However you got me thinking and I did get it
to work when I moved it to c:\netrider\load\ns3210.s

The probe erased the flash and then down loaded sucessfully. After
restarting it says V2.3!

A minor nit for the Hubloader group; I was unable to delete the
file definition in the NetRider Loader files option. I could select my
file definition for ns3210.s , press the delete button, the file would
disappear from the menu then I would save and exit the screen. However
when I looked at the config | files option, ns3210.s would still be
there. I ended up editing c:\netrider\load\loader.ini and delete all
file references.
