I have a Decbridge 900MX which is frequently logging port restarts. The Bad Hello Limit Exceeded counter is also incrementing rapidly. I'm not clear what the "Bad Hello Limit Exceeded" means. I have included a diagram below of my configuration. This a "Cell" in which we factory load software on our PCs from the infoservers. I have tried a different bridge port and the problem stays with the Cell. Any ideas? Looks like the DB90 in the cell is confused and sending bad hellos. Rebooting it, preferably with factory defaults, should help. Anil

re: -1 That's kinda what I thought so I asked that the DB90 get swapped out. That apparently has been done, however the problem persists. Is there something I could look at with the Data Capture from Probewatch to isolate the problem? Scott

If you grab all packets destined to 01-80-C2-00-00-00 (802.1D Hello Multicast), and you'll probably see two each second given that the DB90 is generating bad hellos, their contents should give a clue on what's going on. If you use a NG Sniffer, it'll even take them apart and describe which bridge is advertising what information etc. One solution is to just remove the DB90.. in this configuration, the DECswitch port is probably providing sufficient bridging capability.
