2065.0. "Ip Services modules" by STROP::LAYLAND (Iligitami nil Carborundum) Thu Mar 02 1995 06:35

Hi all

A simple question. Is there a list of the modules that can be used for IP
services on the DEChub 900 MS??

Simple eh !!

2065.1All big modules, except the Access Server.NETCAD::GALLAGHERThu Mar 02 1995 08:522
All DEChub900 modules except the DECserver900TM can be used as
IP servers.

Ummm, and the DECserver with the bulk connector.

Thanks for the reply. Just to paraphrase; all 900 modules except the current
terminal servers. Will this change ??

An additional question. I have had some problems with a DEC hub 900 where the
IP services module was the DECswitch 900EF, and the only connection was via FDDI.
When we moved the backplane ethernet connections around we lost the comnection
to the hub.
We may have a faulty hub or module, but, are there any ground rules for what
I can or cannot do whith IP services assigned modules and b/p connectivity,
Enet or FDDI, even the obvious, like look in the book, I can take it.

Yes, that's corrent.

I've heard that IP services support is being disscussed as a future
enhancement to the servers. Last I heard was "stay tuned".

I don't understand. It's the part about "the only connection was via FDDI",
and later, "moving the backplane ethernet connections" that confuses me.

But as for ground rules, as long as there's IP connectivity, IP services
works. If you loose IP connectivity, then you can't communicate with the
NMS. Switching backplane channels can affect IP connectivity. (Forgive
the trite answers. My point is that there are no tricks, implementation
restrictions, known bugs, or configuration rules [other than a module
which support IP services] involved.)

The DECrepeater 90TS and DECrepeater 90FS can also provide IP services.

the small box token ring devices ( DTMAU, DTFOR, DTROR, DTROS) all
have 900 numbers, but they will not perform IP services. Only the
large box DECmau 900TH (DTMXM) will provide IP services.

What I meant was that the HUB was FDDI via a concentrator, and hence was the
only connection to the system running hubwatch.

Thanks for the reply, I suspec we may have a faulty Bridge.
