2063.0. "Token-Ring Segments on Backplane" by VNABRW::PARGFRIEDER () Wed Mar 01 1995 05:46

Hallo all!

Does anybody know how many Token-Ring segments will be
supported on the Hub900 Backplane with Hubwatch V4.0?

Do we have plans to support more than six Ethernet-LANs
on the Backplane within this CY?

Thanks for help
Alfred

	Yes. I know how many Token Ring segments will be in V4.0.

	You're welcome,

	HUBwatch

ps: There will be 2 Token Ring segments. These are the two fixed token ring
     channels in the upper connector of a DEChub 900 backplane. Each channel
     can be either 4 or 16 meg.

    yes. ask Bill Naas or Vernon Hines (product managers) for details.
2063.3help to configure dtmauMSBCS::HURLEYTue Jan 09 1996 09:426
    I'm running v4.1.1 hubwatch and need to configure a dtmau on the hub
    that I installed. I can not find the option to configure this in the
    hub.

    -1 says there are 2 token ring segments on the upper connector of the
    dechub900 backplane but I cant find it. Any help would be helpful..

    If I remember correctly, these are 2 FIXED token rings, so you should
    not have to configure them. It's just like the fixed Ethernet for the
    old DEChub 90 modules.

    When you plug the module in, can you see it HUBwatch? I guess I never
    understood why you never see token rings when looking at the hub. Maybe
    they only appear after a token ring module is plugged in?

HUBwatch V4.* will automatically show two token ring LANs in the LAN
Interconnect window whenever any of the following devices are in the
backplane:
	DECmau 900TH
	DECmau 900TL
	DECrepeater 900TL, 900SL, 900FL
and a couple of others, but I forget what they are (routers...).

So, just plug your module in, and the rings will appear. You can change
the ring speeds and move connections between the rings. Except for the
following, they behave exactly like Ethernet or FDDI LANs in HUBwatch:
	- Two token rings "created" automatically when TR modules inserted.
	- Fixed names: "Token Ring A" and "Token Ring B". No renaming.
	- Token ring LANs cannot be deleted.

2063.6token ring found now what??MSBCS::HURLEYWed Jan 10 1996 13:318
    Things are looking better but I'm not sure what the fix was. I powered
    down the hub and when it came back up the 2 token ring lans showed up.
    I assigned the mau to the 16meg ring.

    	I have lots of reading to do about token rings. Now that I have the
    hub up and running with a decbridge 900mx and a decmau 900tl how do I
    get the token ring to talk to other nodes that are attached off of the
    decbridge 900??

    Well, you need a device which is not yet shipping. You need an Ethernet
    to Token Ring Bridge. This is being produced by the Internetworking
    product group.

    Did you know that you needed this device?

2063.8thanksMSBCS::HURLEYWed Jan 10 1996 14:3114
    I new that I needed something to route or bridge from token to ethernet
    but I did not know what.. I recall reading something about using a
    proteon router..

    	Its a standalone testing hub for now but I'm sure its just a matter
    of time before the users want the connection from token to ethernet.
    Is there info on the new product and when its due out?

    Thanks for your help..

    I just got the video on hubwatch so hopefully between that and finding
    a class of Hubwatch I should be all set.. :-)

    Yes, today a Proteon router is probably one of the only solutions.

    If this is a test, then what do you think is a time frame for needing
    the TR/Enet bridge?
2063.10not sureMSBCS::HURLEYWed Jan 10 1996 15:252
    I"m not sure what the time frame will be but I'll ask the eng. group
    and let you know.

    Drop a note to the Product Manager, Andy Shores, for specifics. Who
    knows, you may be a candidate as a field test site. I can
    say the router in question will be be on the shelves relatively soon.
