2042.0. "connection to front port on switch 900 ?" by MARS03::THOMAS () Thu Feb 23 1995 09:08

    I want to connect single Ethernet equipments to several ports in the front
    of DECswitches 900 EE or EF and PEswitchs (only 1 ethernet equipment by
    port).

    If the port is 10 b 5, i think that i can't connect an Ethernet
    equipment to this port with only one drop cable. I have to use :
    	- one drop cable,
    	- one transceiver, -!
    	- coaxial cable, --- or one DELNI
    	- one transceiver  -!
    	- one drop cable.
    Q1 : Is it right ?

    If the port is 10 b t, i think that i only need a 10 base t BN26N cable
    that has a crossover.
    Q2: Is it right ?

    Thank you for yopur answers.

    	Regards,

    	I am not sure what your trying to describe on the first question.

    Q2:

    	You need a cross over cable to connect a host directly to the
    bridge port. They are straight through not crossed internally like a
    repeater.

I don't think you need a crossover cable for the PEswitch 900TX. I think
those get wired like repeater ports.
2042.3PEswitch UTP ports have internal crossoverNETCAD::BATTERSBYThu Feb 23 1995 09:496
    Tom is correct. The PEswitch 899TX is targeted for the desktop
    usage whereas the DECswitch 900EE, and DECswitch 900EF are targeted
    towards the department usage. Thus the PEswitch 900TX has internal
    crossover on its UTP ports and the other two do not.

    If you are referring to the AUI ports on the switches, all you
    should need is an AUI cable drop to a MAU (thinwire), or an AUI
    cable to a DELNI local port. In each case the MAU BNC or the DELNI
    global port is presumably connected to an existing building coax
    LAN structure.

  you can Make another config also

    Decswitch AUI =DECXM T----thinwire----T DECXM==AUI of stations
