2040.0. "Help needed on Packet Probe" by KETJE::VANDENBERG_R () Wed Feb 22 1995 14:58

       Hi,

        I have a serious problem with packets probes.

        Since the moment I have configured an IP address on the SLIP port
        I can't access the packet probe from another subnet than the one of the
        Ethernet interface.

        The result is, if I am trying to ping from another subnet the following
	message on the console

        icmp_receive: unexpected pkt type = 0, id = -11774, seq = -30365

        Tracing with an LAN analyzer I see a correct ICMP ECHO Type 8 packet
	coming but the packet probe doesn't answer.

        The packet Probe version is Rev 2.1
        The slip_port is off in the agent_options

        - I have tested this with two probes and the two are now in the same
	  state
        - A reset doesn't help :>{
        - Putting the address and mask of the SLIP port to 0.0.0.0 doesn't help
          I don't know how to specify NONE or Not configured which was the
          orignal value
        - A TFTP with the image doesn't help :>{

        More details,

        The IP address of the Ethernet is 16.201.0.207
        The Mask is 255.255.255.0
        The gateway is 0.0.0.0 (not specified)
        And I was able to ping from any node in subnet 16.201.0.0 and
	16.183.32.0

        Now from the menu a went to [8] Select interface
        selected 2 the Serial and defined the same mask and address as above
        Since that moment I am not able to ping from subnet 16.183.32.0 but
	still ok from 16.201.0.0

        As mentionned above putting address and mask to 0.0.0.0 doesn't help
        This was verified with a second prob :>{{{

        So I have now two ONE SUBNET PROBES, very usefull .

        A work around (Factory reset or what ever) should be appreciate

        While I was writting this note, I have found something that can help
        Using an IP address of 255.255.255.255 with a mask 255.255.255.255 on
	the SLIP port let it works again (a valid address other than the one on
	Ethernet also, but 0.0.0.0 not)

        Thanks in advance,
        Robert

2040.1Sorry I find the solutionKETJE::VANDENBERG_RWed Feb 22 1995 15:2012
	Hi,

	The solution is to

	set ip_valid no

	and

	do reset

	Thanks for the quick reply ;>)

	Should I say what I think !

        It took me 5 hours to solve that problem.
        This is what we can expect as activity if we do not have
        fundings for the documentations.

        Lots of fun for the others
