Geeez. I wish I had problems (sales like that).

Well, you can wait around until the engineers implement the VNM
(Virtual Network Manager) facility under HUBWATCH that I suggested in
1998.6.
or
Maybe ask Jon in 1998.10 as he may be able to "sacrifice" 8^) some time
(or whatever is handy for that matter) and give a thought to a better way.

2007.2 | What Dave (.-1) said, and ... | ROGER::GAUDET | Because the Earth is 2/3 water | Mon Feb 13 1995 16:59 | 12 |
| There was a note a long time ago asking about the existence of a mechanism for
manufacturing to tell us what version of firmware was loaded into a particular
device when it was shipped based on the serial number of the device. I never
got an answer from the manufacturing people as to whether or not such a
mechanism exists. I suspect that it does not.
I'm afraid that without actually powering up the device, you can't tell what
firmware revision is in it.
Sorry.

Without opening the boxes and powering things up there isn't any
way unless has been suggested you are into heavy virtual reality and
can get your mind inside the box and read the info from non-volatile
RAM. AFTER you have opened the boxes you can get the level for the
hub simply by powering it up and reading the LCD. The modules present
a bit more of a problem. You have 2 choices. You can put them in a hub
and with HUBwatch go to the summary screen and get the info. Of course
you will have to scroll in the ID window because not enough characters
show. The second and although just as tedious way but less
nerve-wracking is to use the 900 setup port and select option 13
(redirect) then slot # then option 3 to show current and then CTRL/C
to get back to the main menu and do the next slot. Actually with a
little practice you will get proficient at repeating these steps and
get through those several hundred modules. Do you think I have done
this a few times? For the 90 modules unless they are 90TS,90FS,
DECagent or DECbridge you don't have to worry because there is no
firmware to upgrade.

2007.4 | I heard that - human sacrifice (another word for SE?) | PTOJJD::DANZAK | Pittsburgher  | Mon Feb 13 1995 18:05 | 11 |
| Ok dave - I heard that "jon" comment....
(Actually Eric sent me mail and I sent him some HUBLOADER info....)
So hopefully he won't have to do any sacrifices. Although the account
is Oklahoma Health Care - so perhaps they could sacrifice a patient or
two.....
