1985.0. "PacketProbe console unresponsive" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Glenn Trewitt) Wed Feb 08 1995 17:07

I have two DERMN's that I just got from DIAL (i.e., I have no idea about their
histories). Both of them display the same symptoms, which is:
1) The console prints out the following, over and over:
	<00:00:00> Agent Serial#: 10716978
	<00:00:00> IFN 1 MAC Addr: 08-00-2b-a3-87-32
<00:00:00> Free memory after boot = 927120 Bytes
<00:00:00> MIBMGR: Collector activated for Interface 1
	<00:00:00> Code Executing from EPROM
	<00:00:00> AGENT Version 1.1
	<00:00:00> NVRAM Version 2.0
	<00:00:00> Link time Aug 09 15:05:30 1993
<00:00:00> Interface [1] IP Addr: Not configured
	<00:00:00> NetMask: Not configured
	<00:00:00> GW Addr: Not configured
	<00:00:00> Agent Ready
<00:00:00> Free Memory after init = 839604 Bytes
2) The console is unresponsive; no response to keyboard input,
including typing RETURN several times, which I think is the
way you're supposed to get a console session.

I've tried several different console adaptors, and I know (by looking
with a breakout box) that I don't have Tx/Rx flipped. One adaptor, I know,
works with a DECbrouter, and another is the H8571-J MMJ-to-9pin.

I have another DERMN that is seriously down rev on firmware, to the point
where the current version of ProbeWatch will only barely talk to it. It is
properly configured (has IP address) and "works" as much as it can. However,
its console is *totally* unresponsive.

All of the other notes I've seen, about console problems and firmware upgrades
discuss either connector problems or totally brain-dead (erased flash) DERMN's,
but none of them described these symptoms.

Any clues about resusitating these would be welcome. We can even program
the EEPROMs that they use, if we had the bits.

Thanks in advance.

it's normal message during a reboot/reset of Decpackeprobe90, but after that
i must have the following prompt message
"HIT any key to enter configuration utility"

may an hardware problem in probe90..

for cabling using H8571-J + BC16E (MMJ cable for VT) works perfectly

1985.2Problem was wrong power supplyNETRIX::"[email protected]"Glann TrewittFri Feb 10 1995 21:547
I had a H7827-AA power supply, rather than the H7827-BA, which can
supply much more current. The effect is that it *almost* works, but
can't boot into Flash, and keeps rebooting.

Thanks to Jack Forrest for having a long memory.
