doing testing in a customer premises with Hubwatch
and Dechub900 , we noted
the following bizarre behaviour of Hubwatch polling :
- when we extract a power supply ,
Hubwatch , after 60s , detects this and re-displays
the hub without the supply
- if we just disconnect the power supply but
leave it in the hub , there is NO detection
what we are afraid of , is , if the power
supply really fails , is this going to be Undetected ?
by the way , we are defining policies to monitor the hubs
and Hubwatch is OK for display , but , as it cannot get traps
we are thinking of adding an SNMP manager like Netview to
be able to poll more efficiently and to be able to get traps ;
another thing is there will be up to 14 hubs in the customer premises
and really i cannot imagine a single operator watching simultaneously
the 14 Hubwatch windows !! ( or it is the new Human Fly ;-)

Nope. The Management Agent Module (MAM) polls the power supplies.
It detects insertion, removal, and status. It will reallocate
power based on the changes in the power sub-system.
The DEChub900 has a slew of power management features described in the
Owner's Manual and in its published MIBs.

shawn ,
i completely agree with you about power recalculation
as it is displayed thru the LCD of the hub manager .
but still , the problem is with HUbwatch display that is not
refreshed with polling ON .
That is , if the power supply is not physically removed ,
the display continues to show the power supply , although
it should grey it out .
i didnt test it with hubwatch windows ; we are only using
Hubwatch OSF/1 .
maybe a bug with osf/1 ?

| The front panel display is not going to do the trick for you.
You should take a look at the environment view to get a more accurate
status on the power supplies. The LED colors for the power supplies
more accurately reflect what Shawn is talking about. The online
help list the possible states for each color.
