Hello, I have a basic question on DECNDUPLUS and Hubwatch etc. We are setting up LAPTOPS ( DECPC425SLC) with XIRCOM Ethernet NIC card for use onsite the DECNDUPLUS and hubwatch etc. I know from topic 1452.4 - dendup is unsupported. Is hubloader supported on this setup ? We tried in the lab to set up the decnduplus on this laptop to down load hub900 multuiswitch upgrade to 3.1 - and failed . DECNDUP did not work propoerly. We tried similar load at a customer site - with 3Com NIC on a COMPAC Laptop and that did not work either. Next we had to use another a PC with ETHERWORKs3 NIC and that worked oK. Are there any DEC Ethernet NIC cards supported on LAPTOP DECPC425SLC ? I will appreciate any feedback on XIRCOM/other third party ethernet NIC support for DECNDUPLUS,HUBWATCH,HUBLOADER/GIGASWITCh FDDI loader etc. Thanks in advance Mohan Kulhalli CSC Sydney

Mohan, HUBloader should work with any WINSOCK-compliant IP stack and network adapter. We are still testing various combinations of NICs and PCs but it is impossible for us to test all of them. Any feedback you can provide is welcome. As for DECndu Plus, there are some folks who have successfully gotten it to work on a laptop with a PCMCIA card. Try searching this conference with /TITLE="notebook", "laptop" and "ndu". There are many notes about this (and many war stories) that are worth reading. FYI, I have had DECndu Plus working on a XIRCOM PE2 and PE3 for a long time. Check out note 836.5 for some details about various adapters I have gotten to work with DECndu Plus. ...Roger... | |||||

I am using a so called DEC Work bench PC DECPC425SL/e with a XIRCOM CE10 PCMCIA card. I can NDUed I can HUBWatched I can even ProbeWatched By experience you may have strange behaviour, but for me not related to the XIRCOM card. 1. 8 Mbytes memory and disk stacker is a problem while accessing hubs with high density modules, you can wait hours before the screen is updated. 2. With NDU on a loaded network, you will experience time-out, which of coures will leave your modules in some lunatic mode :>} 3. With ProbeWatch function of the load of the network, you will have regularely message like 'Cannot Access the Agent' Hope it helps, Robert |
