1896.0. "Strange FDDI Neighbor Address !" by VNABRW::WALDHERR () Tue Jan 17 1995 10:10

    Hi,

on my DECHub900 i start to play around with some FDDI components.
I had no problems connecting 2 DECBridge900 via FDDI together (backplane
or FDDI-Cables). But when i try to connect a DECBridge900 to an
DECConcentrator900 it only works externaly with FDDI-Cables. It dosent work
    on the DECHub900 backplane !

What i have done:	set port A&B to backplane on the bridge, concentr.
create one FDDI channel in the LAN_Interc. window
connect the br and con to the FDDI-Channel

What i hav seen:	DECBr900, FDDI Summary window, Status,
    				CF State = isolated
port a+b are grey (not green)
UNA and DNA are 00-00-f8-00-00-00 ????

    			DECCon900 shows the same information

One of my customers sees this strange FDDI-Addresses too
(00-00-f8-00-00-00) but he has a running FDDI connection via Backpl. !

    FW-Rev.	DECCon900 2.8, DECBridge900 1.4, DECHub900 3.1
HUBWatch (vms) 3.1.3, HUBWatch (WIN) X3.1.5

Is this a known problem ?
    Any ideas...
    Best regards, Andreas

The 00-00-f8-00-00-00 address means the UNA/DNA is unknown.

Your configuration consisting of a concentrator and bridge connected
over the IMB should work (works for me). Anything else that you can
    tell us ...

1896.2Just curious, what is the bridge Enet Address?NETCAD::BATTERSBYTue Jan 17 1995 15:026
Andreas, can you tell us what the MAC address of the bridge is?
It's the 08-00-2B-...... address that's on the outside of the
DECbridge box, or can be determined by looking at the bridge
    console.

    Hi,

sorry for my slow response time, i was at customer site the last 2 days.

Bill, thanks for explaning the XX-F8-XX address. I play a lot with the
HUB,Bridge and Concentrator. Set all FDDI port to the front panel.
clear and create a new FDDI ring (IMB). Switch off and back on the
whole equipment. Use another Bridge, but it doesn't work.
Maybe my concentrator is broken, but i can't check it because we have
only one in Austria. (I already requested one from logistics) !

Bob, the MAC Addresses from my 2 DECBridges900 are 08-00-2b-a6-5b-00
    and 08-00-2b-a6-8d-e8 !

    Thanks Andreas
