1894.0. "Problems hot-swapping DECmultiswitch 900" by ALCALA::ESTEBAN (JOSE ANTONIO GOMEZ @SQO) Mon Jan 16 1995 10:54

            Hi all,

            I've found a problem when hot-swapping the DECmultiswitch
            900. The module loose configuration if disconnected from the
            HUB with power applied. I believed this feature was supported
            with all modules in DEChub900.

            Also, when I open the optic fibber circuit to swap the
            bridge, HUBwatch for Windows loose TCP-IP connection with all
            hubs and is unable to re-establish the connection if the
            different hubs are not powered off/on. Ping to the bridges is
            unsuccessful till they are powered off/on.

            Any help will be appreciated.

            Regards,

    If you hot-swap a module, any backplane configuration for that module
    is deleted.

    Your second problem is less clear - could you please describe the
    configuration in detail before and after the problem occured -
    including where on the network your PC is and which modules are the IP
    servers in each hub.

            Sorry, more info:

            Eight DEChub 900 (1 x DECrepeater + 1 x DECbridge 900 each)
            forming a dual ring FDDI configuration. DECbridges are the IP
            servers in each hub.

            HUBwatch running on a PC connected to a port on one of this
            repeaters. I can ping to all hubs successfully, and HUBwatch
            connects with all bridges.

            If I open the FDDI ring (i.e. to hot-swap one of the
            DECbridges) I lose the IP connection from HUBwatch. From DOS
            I can't ping to any hub. I must power off then on each hub to
            ping successfully from the PC. Is this a normal behaviour?

1894.3FDDI ring doesn't WRAP itselfISIDRO::65035::Julio-VazquezTue Jan 17 1995 09:2642
I Have one similar problem,

I have one HUB with FDDI, 2 Bridges and one Concentrator:

External	A						B
	DECswitch 900		Concentrator		DECswitch 900

Internal	B ---------------- A    B --------------- A

I configure DECswitch 1 with A - outside B - inside port (TRUNK B). DECconcentrator with A and B
inside ( TRUNK AB ) and the second DECswitch with A - inside B - outside (TRUNK A).

When I remove the concentrator ( hot swapped), Hubwatch detect that one module has been removed, but
the FDDI ring will not wrap per the FDDI standard, so the DECswitch also lost its configuration and
I lost the FDDI ring inside the HUB.

If I have the following configuration in LAN interconect:

		    A				   B
		DECSWitch	Concentrator   DECswitch
FDDI LAN      =====*B*=============*AB*===========*A*=============

When I remove the concentrator it appears like:

		    A		   B
		DECSwitch	DECswitch
		    | | A ( no conection ) and when i see the port it look like
		    |					AB outside.
		  B |
FDDI LAN    ==========================================

I thought that when we remove one module from the HUB, the RING will autoconfigure itseft, but that
doesn't happen.

Some times I must do a REFRES in hubwatch to see the DECswitch again, Polling is ON, because it
fails.

    Hi,

    I have a similar config but no problem found. I have about ten
    DECHub 900, each one have one DECbridge 900MX and three to four
    DECrepeater 900TM or DECserver 900TM. Through DEChub are connected
    and form DAS FDDI ring. I can remove/hot-swap any one of the DECbridge
    without effecting the network.

    My DECbridge 900MX firmware is V1.4. Have you check your connection
    and configuration ?

    Good Luck.

    David.

	I tried the following two configs. Disconnecting the concentrator
	resulted in an intact FDDI IMB between the two bridges/switches.

Thank you

There was the firmware.

Now all work properly.
