1889.0. "DECrepeater90TS as Standalone" by FSSB::LARSSON () Sat Jan 14 1995 05:59

Hi,

How should the DECrepeater90TS behave at power-up when you use it as a
Standalone unit?
As I understand reading the Installation & Configuration manual you
would only need to connect the power cord and it should pass it's
selftest and then continually switch between the ThinWire and AUI port
until you connect a cable (or loopback) and then it should select that
port.
The customer has two DECrepeaters, one that works this way and one that
needs a cable (connected to ethernet) to pass the selftest and to select
the right port(ThinWire or AUI). Customer thought that there was some
problem with the one that needed an AUI-cable(DETPM connected to a DEC-
bridge900) so he called Field Service. We tried two DECrepeaters from our
stock and both of them needed an AUI-cable connected at power-up to pass
the selftest and select the AUI-port.
It seems logical to me that it need some kind of cable or loopback connected
to pass the selftest but I interpret the manual different and obviously one
of the DECrepeaters has interpreted the manual in the same way as I have.

Does anyone know this?
Or perhaps know if and where you can find some kind of a Service Manual.

Both variants of DECrepeaters has firmware revision V1.1

    Hi, Olof.

You state that the unit fails to pass selftest in certain
configurations. DECrepeater 90TS should pass selftest just fine with
    no cables attached.

What symptom is it showing, exactly? Is the FRU OK LED off? What
patterns are on the other LEDs?

Hi,

If you connect only the power cable the FRU(Module) OK LED is OFF and all the
other LEDs are ON.

Any module that comes up with all LEDs ON and the FRU OK LED OFF is
broken... this is exactly the symptom you'll get if the module isn't
    running code.

Is there any updateon this, Most if not all of the Standalone
DETMI's we are getting have this symptom, i.e. Will have all four
lights on constantly during power up.

We must have either a thinwire T with terminators or a valid
powered on connection in PORT 1 when powering up to work.
