1881.0. "RayLan hubs??" by DPDMAI::DAVIES (Mark, SCA Area Network Consultant) Thu Jan 12 1995 23:13
I just got beat out by a company called RayLan. It is a subsidiary of
AMP. It has bid it's 1600, 5000 and 5500 hubs. It is being resold by
Southwestern Bell.
I got beat by price only. Cabletron was in this to, but DEChub 900 was
considered the class of the field, but they couldn't pass up the price
of the Raylan gear offered by SWBT. I was told by the customer that SWBT
asked what it would take for them to win the business, ie, they were
willing to "buy it".
OK, my question: ANYBODY ever heard of RayLAN or know anything about
there equipment?
I ask because these folks require that the hub be ATM ready. Cabletron
blew it by bidding the MMAC-8FNB and told the customer that it offered
a path to ATM (right and they will supply the fork lift!). The
customer believed them. I gave him a Cabletron catalog. EXIT
Cabletron, stage left...
I am trying to see if this is also what is happening with this RayLan
equipment.
ANY direction on this will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark
