Does it work or are we exceeding the repeater rule?
Anyway, if were exceeding this rule, can it work correctly?

This note is cross-posted in the ethernet conference.

Thanks in advance,

Llus (Spain NPBU warrior)

If you're designing networks I suggest that you fill-out this
questionnaire and forward it to Joe Burnett. The reason for the
questionnaire is so that you can get registered in his database so when
changes or errors are found you can be notified.

I believe the program will actual assist in drawing the network, does
rule checking (which answers part of your question), and them will
supply a BOM (bill of materials).

I believe the current shipping version is 1.5 but the same
questionnaire applies. Kit is available on-line and you only need a PC
    running Windows.

1740.2NETdesigner can be used to answer the questionNETCAD::BURNETTWed Dec 07 1994 16:1339
Hi Llus,

Unfortunately, the right side of your network drawing is truncated.
Therefor, I will make an assumption that the rightmost hub is
configured similarly to the leftmost hub. If so, the NETdesigner
referred to in .1 gives the following results:

Round trip delay RTD =	87.5% of max or 503.40 bits (575 is max)
Interpacket Gap (IPG) Shrinkage = 131.6% of max or 64.5 bits (49 is max)

So there is a problem.

Substituting a DEWGF fiber bridge for the DEFMM in the rightmost
hub results in the following numbers for the two collision domains
created by introducing the bridge:

Collision Domain 1 (Left and middle hubs):

Round trip delay RTD =	62.1% of max or 356.82 bits (575 is max)
Interpacket Gap (IPG) Shrinkage = 76.5% of max or 37.5 bits (49 is max)

Collision Domain 2 (The right hub):

Round trip delay RTD =	42.6% of max or 245.22 bits (575 is max)
Interpacket Gap (IPG) Shrinkage = 49.0% of max or 24 bits (49 is max)

I hope this helps. I'll send a pointer to you to obtain the NETdesigner,
which can easily and quickly model your configuration. Since the DETPJ
is not scheduled to ship until March, 1995 (when the tool will support
it) you must use the DETMM. They are both Twisted Pair repeaters, so
to model the network it is OK.

Regards,

Joe Burnett
