1701.0. "FDDI Training Material ????" by GIDDAY::STANISLAUS () Thu Nov 17 1994 00:09
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am planning to give a few courses in our Territory (South Pacific
Region) on DEChub 900 and Hubwatch. What I am looking for is, some materials
on FDDI Overview or FDDI concepts. My knowledge is mostly based on what I learnt
from the FDDI primer and FDDI System Level Description books and working on
a few DECbridge 5xx/6xx and DECconcentrator 5xx and also DECswitch EF and
DECconcentrator 900MX. But I do not have any material or slides to present it to
a class. Before I go ahead and prepare some such material, I wanted to ask in
this note if some such training slides, etc are already available somewhere
on the network as post-script files.
Basically the material should be coverable in an-hour to introduce to
people who do not know FDDI at all, information such as FDDI dual ring, wrapped
ring, tree config, A port, B port, M port, S port, SAS station, DAS station,
SMF and MMF fibre, ring distance, distance between stations, the ring init, ring
purge and ring clain processes and cover FDDI ring counters - what they mean ?
Eg what does ring inits received mean, what does ring inits sent mean, etc.
This one-hour session should help the students to understand when I go into FDDI
configurations on DECswitchEF and DECconcentrator 900MX in a DEChub 900
backplane.
Cross posted in FDDI and Gigaswitch notes conferences.

1701.1 | Some ideas? | JGODCL::LBERG | gaia is moving | Fri Nov 18 1994 08:45 | 19 |
| Hi,
I just made some slides from the system level description and stripped
it to a one-hour session. Just highlight the important things. I
distribute this System level desription or the FDDI Network
Configuation Guidelines (EK-DFDDI-CG-002) as handout.
Also the manual "A Primer on FDDI" (EC-H1580-42/92 07) is a nice little
book as reference (and useful for slides).
If you have more info please let me know. (I give internal Field
service training, so quality of the documents comes on a second place).
I'm planning to write some handouts on the DEChub900 FDDI devices
(configuration, intallation and use), but if you have some I can save
time and so save company money.
Regards,
Lodewijk

| Pointers ??
Hello. I am about to give a class on FDDI/DEChub900/DECnis to a
customer who just received this configuration from us. Does anyone
have some good Powerpoint documents that describe these products, and
some pictures?
I notice that the above two entries don't include file pointers.
thanks.

1701.3 | FDDI Course Materials | KAOFS::R_RYAN | I used to be a coyote but Im ok nowoooo! | Mon Mar 20 1995 17:59 | 9 |
| I wrote an FDDI course that is aproximately 4 hours of lecture with
time for questions etc...There are overheads in powerpoint v4.0 and a
technical document that I wrote using word for Windows 6, for the same
course. This course is part of the Canadian offering of DECHUB 900
training.
There are labs available as well if you have the Bridges and
Concentrators. Available upon request.
Regards,
Ron Ryan
