My customer has several DECbridge 900mx's and is essentially running dedicated personal ethernet out the front ports. He currently has about 14 workstations attached to DECbridge 900MX on a ring. When using HUBwatch for VAX v3.0, through the DECbridge 900mx summary page and the FDDI summary info. ... it says he is running @ 27-34%. Customer was very concerned at that utilization for only 14 workstations. So he put a analyzer on net and saw only 2-5% utilization. Is this FDDI info different than what the customer is looking for ... which is ring utiliztion... -Charlie

My guess is that you have Ring Purger enabled on at least one DEC FDDI station - this could be a concentrator or bridge or end station. With Ring Purger enabled, void frames get figured into the utilization calculation. Find out which station it is, and disable it. Also, you could use the analyzer to confirm that there is indeed a large amount of void activity on the ring. Anil |
