1636.0. "DEChub 900 PINWIPE PROBLEM" by NPSS::BIGELOW () Mon Oct 31 1994 10:32
TO: DISTRIBUTION DATE: 31 OCT 94
FROM: Michele Bigelow
DEPT: NPS Program Mgmt
EXT: 226-5168
ENET: NPSS::BIGELOW
SUBJECT: PINWIPE POSITION PAGE
There have been reported failures of the DEChub 900 where the DEChub
900 display indicates insufficient power available. This failure has
been seen on the DMHUB-MB on revision A03 and lower, and on the
DMHUB-MA with revisions A02 and lower. One potential cause
of the failure is due to the 160 pin male and female connectors not
making proper contact (including the power ID pins) at the time of MAX
module installation. This failure is identified as a pinwipe failure
and is due to insufficient rigidity of the platform material in the
associated area. When this failure occurs, all modules to the left of
the inserted module will be shut down by the HUB900 management control
module.
This potential failure has been addressed and corrected in the
DMHUB-MBs with revision of A04 and higher, and DMHUB-MAs with revision
of A03 and higher by adding two (2) stiffeners, P/N 74-49383-01 to the
assembly. For problems of this type occurring in the installed base,
the stiffeners are available from Stockroom 17 as a miscellaneous FRU
and can be added to the DMHUB assembly.
Network Product Support and Network Development Engineering encourage
the upgrade of all DMHUB's at any customer site where this problem has
occurred.

1636.1 | Documentation for install | CSC32::RA_HALL | | Tue Aug 08 1995 11:34 | 9 |
| Help! It seems that this should be a straight forward procedure,
however here at the CSC we have customers calling wanting to know how
to install the stiffeners. They say that they are getting no
instructions with the kit. since we have not seen a kit it is difficult
to advise the customers. Does anyone have documentation for this.
Thanks
Ray Hall
