1593.0. "Flexi-Channel, LAN/Port Hopping, etc. question" by GIDDAY::STANISLAUS () Wed Oct 19 1994 17:21

    	Three DEChub 900 questions:

1)As of today (20th Oct 94) how many of the 14 Flexi-Channels can be
used on the DEChub 900. If all 14 can be used, how many can be used for
FDDI, Ethernet, (and Token Ring ?). This is not a customer requirement,
but to prepare myself if such a question arises in the training course
that I will be giving next week on DEChub 900 product ranges.

2)In DEChub900 Ethernet Architecture and Modules presentation by
Nick Ilyadis (I am just reading his presentation, I did not attend the
presentation), for Module Level LAN hopping, Port Group LAN hoping,
Per-Port LAN hoping, there are notes saying Module does not need
backplane. I don't understand this. If module is not in a backplane,
where do the Flexi-Channels come from. Does the DEChub ONE Docking
Station have Flexi-Channels like the DEChub 900 MS backplane.

3)Where are the DEChub 900 self-test failure error codes
documented. For example if I get a 03-05 error, what do I change. The
Hub Manager or the DEChub 900 MS backplane. What does the test d ?

    FDDI - all 14
Ethernet - 14 but only the first 6 can be actively used as the
chips in the modules can only talk to the first 6
                   channels.
Token Ring - none the 2 Token Rings are located on the upper
                       connector.

With modules such as the DECrepeater 900FP you can group ports
together. If you do not connect them to anything else then they
are a LAN and traffic can go from port to port (in the group) but
cannot leave the module or talk to other ports.

If you take ports 1,2 and group them with ports 3,4 in the 900FP
then the users on the fiber ports can talk to each other but cannot
talk to any of the other port pairs and maybe not onto the backbone
    or backplane.

No. Generally only an AUI port.

I saw the codes posted somewhere in this notes conference but can't
    remember where.
