1552.0. "DECbridge 90- DEFINE BRIDGE FLOOD ENABLE kills it?" by PFSVAX::MCELWEE (Opponent of Oppression) Tue Oct 11 1994 15:19

-Cross posted in NAC::RBMS_LANBRIDGE100 and UPSAR::ETHERNET-

When DECbridge> DEFINE BRIDGE FLOOD ENABLED is performed, the
bridge remains in state 1A on port 1 and shows itself as root in Epoch
3 mode after the next reset/ power cycle. The upper yellow LED is on
solid- bridge is not forwarding. Port 1 shows Disabled State: 1.
Spanning tree enable: 1, so console connections are still functional.

This behavior was previously described in KALI::HUB_MGNT Note 1040.2
    which had no concrete response.

The unit is a DEWGF V2.1, FPROM V3.0 or V3.4.

Doing a DECbridge> SET BRIDGE FLOOD ENA results in a state 1F. If
this is then followed by a DECbridge> SET ALL, the bridge goes into
state 12 and the upper yellow LED comes on, forwarding stops.

Is this the way it's supposed to work? I think not...

So, the questions- based upon this Note and the example presented
in Note 1040.2- are Spanning Tree Disable and (manual) Flood
    Mode Enable mutually exclusive?

The problem with "DEFINE BRIDGE FLOOD ENABLE" is that on power-up
port 1 became disabled. This causes forwarding to stop.

There was also a problem with the "SET ALL" command. Sometimes it
would cause port 1 to become disabled.

The fixes for these problems are in the new image:

    	Thanks for the reply Ken.

When is this version expected to be included in Note 2 and/or
    officially released?

I will cross post .1 to the ETHERNET and RBMS_LANBRIDGE100
    conferences.
