there is no mistake being made. we are working on it. it is not
happening over night. we need MACs, phy interfaces, magnetics,...
synoptics will be making noise for a while. the technology didn't
come together and they won't be shipping until into the next year.

| Gee ????
Perhaps I heard wrong, but at the Network Academy in the UK it was
stated that there were no current plans to put 100baset into the
DEChub. Just because the PC NIC group were doing it didn't mean the hub
group would.
Now 9 months ago we were told that we were looking at the posibility of
doing something should the market accept it, since then there has been
on further mention until two weeks ago when it was said that there were
no immediate plans.
Whats happening, did I hear wrong ?
3com have just announced there intention to ship some products within
the next 3 months including a nic at less than $300.

| One or two things that I'd ask my customer is:
- How are you going to do 10/100 bridging and extend the LAN,
there is no standard defined for it today
- Speaking of LAN extensions, are you going to use a twisted pair
backbone for your campus at 100MBps?
- Oh you may want FDDI/Fiber for that? How are you going to do the
100/100 connection (Ethernet to FDDI)
- If they are talking about speed - ask when the last time was that
they MEASURED the network. Can they provide any stats on which
to base a decision? If not, hell, if they want to spend money
sell them consulting to make a SMART decision.
If they really believe 100-base-T is here, alive, viable...sell them a
bridge in Brooklyn.

^--who thinks that economics and religion will drive this - NOT
technology and that engineering DESPERATELY needs to write a position
paper more eloquently articulating the technical realities to dissuade
customers...we could do a 'stitch in time' or wait around, do nothing
and then swim upstream like we've done in the past....
