1472.0. "1460, subnet problem on Hub module" by HGOVC::SIUKEUNGLEE () Fri Sep 23 1994 12:08

Hello,

The problem is not like 1460.1.

If the customer they want to subnet their IP network/Address using the
subnet-mask like this 255.200.0.0. The DECrepeater 900TM don't handle
sub subnet field(200). When you using the Netview to auto-config the
network topolgy. It will discover the DECrepeater 900TM with incorrect
subnet-mask (255.0.0.0). So the network topolgy will display incorrectly
due to the DECrepeater 900TM.

Here are the real case we need to config subnet-mask in DECrepeater 900TM.

                               ---
                              | D | OSF/1 Station
         ------- | R | ------
 NMS | |--------------| 9 | | |
 Station | | | 0 |-----------| |
         ------- | 0 | | |
            | | T | ------
 (IPadd: 10.196.0.65) | M | |
 (Sudnet-Mask 255.255.0.0) --- ( IP add: 10.196.0.33 )
                                | ( Sunnet Mask:255.255.0.0 )
                                |
                       ( IP add: 10.196.0.183 )
                       ( Subnet Mask: Nil )

When you start Netview on NMS station, It will found that the Netview will
auto-discover two different IP network address 10.196.0.0 and 10.0.0.0
(Because 10.196.0.XXX default is Class A address using subnet 255.0.0.0.
The DEcrepeater will base on it IP address to assign it subnet mask.)
The problem is our customer have a more complex network config and they
want to use Netview to monitor the Network.

It realy need to assign correct subnet-mask on DECrepeater 900TM. May be I wong?
Any work around or sugestion/update status are welcome ?

** The IP address or subnet mask can not change in customer site **

Thank !

The 900 modules use the default subnet masks for their address class.
There's really no way to work around this but we do plan on adding
subnet mask support for the next release (you'll enter the subnet
mask in the "set ip address" menus of the console/setup port.)
