1448.0. "SNMP2 information required for RFP response" by NZOV02::MCDONALD () Tue Sep 20 1994 02:23

The following Q's are from an RFP we have received is anyone able to
assist with the answers? The Q's in this case will relate to
    DECrepeator 900 , DEChub one and the 900MX .

1)The hub must support the SNMP and SNMP2 management standards. What
other management standards will your hub support? Provide details for
    all upgrade options.

2)what SNMP mibs does the product support?

3)Please provide details of what network management actions the HUBS
MIBS will support with standars based management software.

4)Please detail what HMA and IEEE 802.1 compliance the HUB supports.

    5) Is the standards based management software functionality extended by
the vendors SNMP based MIB? please provide details of the additional
    functionality the MIB provides.

6)If the product provides additional functionality to the standard MIB
please detail what third part products in the market today can take
    advantage of this extra functionality?

All DECrepeater900 series products have an SNMP agent. Each may be managed
standalone or thru the hub manager. Same for the 900MX products.

SNMPv2 is not supported, nor are there currently any plans to support it.
(Send cards and letters to product management if SNMPv2 is important to
your customers.)

We support no "other management standards".

> 2)what SNMP mibs does the product support?

DECrepeater900s:

o MIB-II (system, interface, arp, ip, udp, snmp. No tcp or egp.)
o rfc1516 (The repeater MIB.)
o rfc1398 or rfc1284. (The "Ethernet MIB.)
o dec-hub900-erptr-mib-v1-1 (The extended repeater MIB. Contains
extensions to the repeater MIB. Includes monitoring and control
of such features as repeater security, dual port redundancy
      extended MAU information, etc.)
o dec-hub900-common-mib-v1-1 (A MIB common to 900 modules. This
      is also a "private MIB".)

DECconcentrator900MX:

o MIB-II (system, interface, arp, ip, udp, snmp. No tcp or egp.)
o rfc1512 (The FDDI MIB.)
o dec-vendor-mib-elanext-vx.x (Various private extensions.)
o dec-hub900-common-mib-v1-1 (A MIB common to 900 modules. This
      is also a "private MIB".)

DECbridge900MX:

o MIB-II (system, interface, arp, ip, udp, snmp. No tcp or egp.)
o rfc1512 (The FDDI MIB.)
o rfc1493 (The Bridge MIB.)
o dec-vendor-mib-elanext-vx.x (Various private extensions.)
o dec-hub900-common-mib-v1-1 (A MIB common to 900 modules. This
      is also a "private MIB".)

Too nebulous for me to answer. ;-)

Yes, all 900 products support private MIBs. (You might want to get a
copy of the extended repeater, vendor, and common mibs from
gatekeeper.dec.com /pub/DEC/hub900/mibs.)

> 6)If the product provides additional functionality to the standard MIB

Any third party product that supports SNMP can be used to take advantage
of the extra functionality supported in the private mibs. Of course,
HUBwatch makes it *much, much* easier to use the more sophisticated
features like security.
