1447.0. "Hub console question" by ODIF11::LICATA () Tue Sep 20 1994 00:36

    I am having a problem accessing the console port on a
    DEChub900, it is not responding to a directly connected terminal.

    I have tried multiple different cables and combinations with
    no luck. The basic 9 pin mmj with a decconnect cable to a vt320
    produces no results at 4800 or 9600 baud.

    All modules have been removed from the hub, the power has been
    cycled (many times :).

    Is there some lockout switch or something I'm missing.
    The LED appears to be working correctly. It identifies the power level
    and the modules in the hub when they are plugged it.
    The LED shows a blank IP address.

    I'm trying to set the IP address of the Hub so I can use Hubwatch
    to manage the hub and its modules.

    Is there any other way to get access to the hub console functions.
    via a terminal server or repeater ?

    Thanks in advance

    Jim

From a coworker:

>The only thing I can think of is to recheck the following:

>       - The connector is a 6pin MMJ <---> 8pin MJ8 type.
>	- Reset the vt320 and setup at 9600bd,8bits,no parity,1stop,flow off.

As for your other questions:

> Is there some lockout switch or something I'm missing.

Nope. It should be as simple as hooking up a terminal.

Nope. You have to use the hub console to give the management module an
IP address.

    Also, On the Hub side, you want to connect the 8-pin mmj (not db-9). This is
    the one on the left. If you have the basic decconnect cable (6-pin both
    ends) you'll need an adapter to go from 8-pin to 6-pin like a H8584-AA.

You are connected to the wrong hub connector. The setup port is the RJ45
connector on the left. From a terminal you can use a BN24H crossover cable.
This cable has an MMJ on one end (terminal) and an RJ45 on the other end (hub).
