1437.0. "Windows X3.1+Etherworks=Death but V2.0 worked?" by PTOJJD::DANZAK (Pittsburgher ) Fri Sep 16 1994 08:43

    I just upgraded HUBWATCH from V2.0 to x3.1 on the DOS platform. V2.0
    worked just fine. However X3.1 issues a message about Memorymode and
    the Ethernet controller and refuses to come up. The Ethernet
    controller is an Etherworks III. Note that PROBEWATCH works perfectly
    fine with this. I got X3.1 to work by using the STRTNDIS from
    PROBEWATCH!

    Checking a bit further, I noticed that the EWRKS3.DOS was newer in the
    X3.1 version of HUBWATCH than the probewatch EWRKS3.DOS.

    I do have a DE201 controller in the machine. (And, DAMN, I wish that
    there was some translation from DExxx to Etherworks....when does a
    DExxx controller turninto an Etherworks one....duuuh...what IS that
    magic part number...)

    Any ideas what the problem may be? Do I need to diddle a dipswitch or
    something?

    Regards,
    j
    ^--note it was dark when I was crawling on the floor...I THINK it's a
    DE201....hey I was tired, it was late etc.

1437.12 ways to Modify MEMORYMODENETCAD::WAGNERCOFFILTue Sep 27 1994 18:101
The new EtherWORKS III NIC cards come with a different MEMORYMODE setting.
1437.2Try again... 2 ways to modify MEMORYMODENETCAD::WAGNERCOFFILThu Sep 29 1994 10:1122
   Check the parameter settings in your PROTOCOL.INI. They will be
   in the [EWRK3] section. Write these down.

   Run NICSETUP.EXE that came with your NIC card on the ETHERWORKS 3 INST
   diskette. In the Main Menu select Setup. Check the displayed settings
   against the settings in your PROTOCOL.INI.

   The two ways to modify the MEMEMORYMODE are:

     1- Modify the parameter settings via the NICSETUP program to match the
        PROTOCOL.INI file.
OR
     2- Modify the parameter settings in the PROTOCOL.INI to match the
        NICSETUP display.

   ****THESE PARAMETER SETTINGS MUST MATCH.*******

   NOTE: A NIC card utility program(like NICSETUP.EXE) usually comes with
         any NIC card. Refer to the NIC card installation instructions.
