1430.0. "TFTP/UCX Probewatch -upgrade info" by PTOJJD::DANZAK (Pittsburgher ) Thu Sep 15 1994 11:47
I recently went through some trials to get TFTP working on a VMS system
with UCX V3.1 - as well as the firmware upgraded on a Packetprobe.
These are the things that I ran into:
1.) UCX V3.1 has a bug in the install - it does not copy the
UCX$TFTP_STARTUP.COM file from SYS$MANAGER: to the default
UCX$TFTP directory (typically SYS$SYSDEVICE:[UCX$TFTP]).
You can use AUTHORIZE to verify the directory and copy the
file here. Make sure that you do a "SET FILE/OWN=PARENT"
on the file so that UCX$TFTP owns/gets it.
2.) Make sure that the SERVICE TFTP is both CONFIGURED by
SYS$MANAGER:UCX$CONFIG and ENABLED. Note that it disables
itself if it fails - so you may need to go into UCX and do a:
UCX> enable service TFTP
You can also toggle it on/off by doing a DISABLE and ENABLE
I you start and abort a transfer, you may have a TFTP out there
and hanging. To fix this you may need to STOP/ID the TFTP
process befor you can UCX/DISABLE and UCX/ENABLE the service.
(SHOW SYS/OUT=T.TMP SEARCH T.TMP TFTP STOP/ID=x)
(where X is the ID of the TFTP process...)
3.) The TFTP directory is NOT the UCX$TFTP directory. It is
the directory [UCX$TFTP_ROOT] - typically on the system device.
Make sure that you put the files that you want to download
in THAT directory and make sure that they are owned by the
PARENT directory (set file/own=parent etc...)
4.) Finally, as Roger Gaudet (pronounced god-day if you're french)
points out you need to do a "UCX SET NOARP ip-address" if you're
upgrading multiple modules and re-using the IP access.. this
invalidates the ARP cache for that (i.e. IP to Ethernet cache)
so TFTP will recognize the NEW module as you do the 2nd, 3rd,
etc.
Hope this helps...
@#&*(@&#(*@&#*( to UCX engineering for NOT reporting file not found
messages with FILENAMES and LOCATIONS...sheesh!
