1371.0. "Cannot Start VIEWER on remote X-session." by MSDOA::REED (John Reed @CBO, DTN:367-6463, KB4FFE, SouthEast) Fri Sep 02 1994 13:05

    Hello;

    	I have just installed HUBwatch for VMS (V3) on a VAX9000. The
    machine does not have a MOTIF display device, but it does have a MOTIF
    and a UCX license. There is a workstation nearby, with a MOTIF license
    but no UCX. HUBwatch needed UCX and MOTIF to install, so we put it on
    the 9000, which had both.

    I do a "$ Set display/create/node=<workstation> " command, and then I
    do the "$ watch/agent <my_local_DEChub900> " and the HUBwatch display
    opens up and I can manage the DEChub and see all of the modules. (I
    upgraded a few of the modules using NDUplus, which worked nicely).

    My problem is, that when I use the POLLER, or VIEWER pulldowns, I do
    not get any windows, and I receive a MOTIF window with the text "POLLER
    FAILED TO START" or something to that effect. I assume that my problem
    is with the POLLER and VIEWER executing on a node that does not have a
    MOTIF X-windows output device. Is there some system-wide logical, or
    HUBWATCH$POLLER_DISPLAY$WINDOW parameter or something that I can set to
    tell Hubwatch where to send the SNMP Alerts when they come in ??

    The customer needs to display the ALARMS that occur, put we cannot
    start the POLLER, or VIEWER applications on the VAX9000.

    Any ideas??

    Hello John,

    	From your VAX9000 in DCL you can do:

    		$ WATCH/POLLER

    	This will start your POLLER - then to bring up the VIEWER, again
    from DCL on your VAX9000 you can start the VIEWER up on your
    workstation:

    	$ SET DISPLAY/CREATE/NODE=<WORKSTATION>
    	$ WATCH/VIEWER

    	This should allow you to do the VIEWER functions your customer wants
    to see.

    Regards,
