Hello, I'm using HUBwatch V3.0 and a DECconcetrator 900MX The FDDI MAC Summary Window has a field with Network Utilization, however this field is greyed out. (NA) Is there any change that this will be implemented. Thanks, Ton.

The reason this field is greyed out is that your concentrator has the MAC-2 chip, not the newer MAC-3 chip. All concentrators built today have the MAC-3 chip. Dennis

obvious question: is there a way to field upgrade to the new chipset? (I can live without it but it would be nice) _kelley

The MAC chip is not a field replacable item. It has been done here in the lab, but is something you do when you have no other choice. Since the MAC-3 is a drop-in replacement for the MAC-2 the hardware revision number was not bumped. In hind sight this may have been a mistake. The best way to determine if the concentrator has a MAC-3 chip is from the date code. The the date code is the first three digits following the AS in the serial number. If the date code is AS429 there is medium chance you have the MAC-3. If the date code is AS432 or higher you have a MAC-3. Dennis |
