	ROUTING ON DECswitch 900EF (aka DECbridge 900MX)

Based on customer feedback that the real need is for a full-function 
multiportocol router on DECswitch 900EF, a decision has been made to 
not release the IP/RIP only router code on DECswitch 900EF in Q1FY95. 

Concurrent multiprotocol bridging and routing is targeted to be 
available on DECswitch 900EF sometime in Q3/Q4FY95. Functionality 
will include IP (OSPF and RIP), IPX, Appletalk and DECnet/OSI routing. 
Packet filtering capabilities will be supported. Functionality will be 
enhanced with subsequent release. 

Configuration will be done through a Telnet connection or via a local 
console.  SNMP GET capability will be supported at first release. 
Increasing SNMP SET capability will be introduced with subsequent release.

Existing customers of DECswitch 900EF (bridge only) will be able to 
upgrade to multiprotocol bridging and routing by a software only upgrade 
thereby protecting their investment in DECswitch 900EF. The List Price 
of the bridge/router is expected to be in the $10,000 - $11,000 range, and 
that of the upgrade license is expected to be in the $2,000 - $3,000 range.
