1303.0. "Remote Dial-up on Console Port?" by ANGLIN::CLAYTON (Merlin Clayton DTN 445-7217) Thu Aug 11 1994 16:46

Does the console port of the DH900 provide modem signals to support remote
dial access for out-of-band management from a remote PC or console device?

A large distributor is asking for this type of capability, but I'm not sure
what to suggest to them.

Any input on how to deliver the message would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Merlin

No, the setup port (RJ45) does not have modem control.

	As Roger said, the Setup port does not have modem control. However,
	there are 2 ports on the DEChub 900 - one of them does have modem
	control, and is intended for Out of band management. It allows you
	to set up a SLIP connection, so that you can run HUBwatch remotely
	over a modem connection.

	This port only understands SNMP, no command line or Telnet support.
	Security is by community string in SNMP.

	Sounds like we meet their requirements.
