1300.0. "Can DECmcc get traps from DH900?" by WARABI::CHIUANDREW () Thu Aug 11 1994 01:43
Hi,
Pls forgive me if these questions had been answered somewhere in this
notes:
1) Customer have DECmcc (V1.3) with SNMP manager, they have DH900 with
DB900MX, DC900MX, DR900FP and other terminal server modules, questions
are after we complied the MIBs DEC-HUB900-CHASSIS, COMMON, ERPTR and
ELAN, could we use DECmcc to manage the following:
a) To report changes of the FDDI ring via DB900MX or DC900MX?
b) Change of ports status of each DB900MX/DC900MX/DR900, UNA, DNA of
the FDDI ring?
c) Could we use the SNMP set to change configuration of the DB900MX
(e.g. filter, port status, etc..)?
d) Will DH900 report network events to DECmcc when 'something' happen
to any module inside that HUB?
thanks in advance for help!

1300.1 | You can do most things | WELLIN::MCCALLUM | | Tue Aug 16 1994 12:37 | 32 |

You will be able to do most things, but some of the configuration
may be cumbersome as you will have to understand how the MIB works.
You can get the traps that the HUB provides and you can poll the
backplane for changes in module status and power supply status.
There was a problem with DECmcc and the number of levels in the mib
but a DECmcc patch has been issues to provide a fix. You only need this
id you are going to poll for mib varaibles in alarm rules.
a) To report changes of the FDDI ring via DB900MX or DC900MX?
Yes via polled alarms or traps.
b) Change of ports status of each DB900MX/DC900MX/DR900, UNA, DNA
of the FDDI ring?
Yes via polled alarms.
c) Could we use the SNMP set to change configuration of the DB900MX
(e.g. filter, port status, etc..)?
Yes but you'd be better with hubwatch on VMS to make it easier.
d) Will DH900 report network events to DECmcc when 'something'
happen to any module inside that HUB?
Yes via a polled alarm on appropriate attributes in the mibs.
