1287.0. "Agent 90 in Hub 900 - how to make it work?!" by PTOVAX::DANZAK (Pittsburgher ) Mon Aug 08 1994 21:41

    I've just read note 1084 RE:DECbridge 90 in 900 not being manageable.
Just lived through 2 hours of FAILING to implement it at a customer.
Are there any other 'gotchas' with setting up a DECagent 90 in the
DEChub 900? What should or should not be done to enable all modules to
be managed. And, WHY IS THIS NOT DOCUMENTED (Or hiddden and
    unindexed!)?

    J,

Section 3 of the "HUBwatch Installation and Configuration" manual
contains the information which you need. The steps involved in
making some of the older modules play in the DEChub 900 are not
very straight forward (ie plug and play). The good news is that they do
work. The better news is that things get a lot easier in the 900-world.
To help with this difficult area there is a flowchart which guides
the user through the various procedures required. I'm sure that the
writers would appreciate any feedback which you may have to help make
this easier for the customers. There's nothing like actual feedback from
the field to help perfect the manuals, on-line help, and release notes.

1287.2U r right - but FIX the index please!PTOVAX::DANZAKPittsburgher Wed Aug 10 1994 09:5520
I have the Hubwatch USE manuals - but not the installation and
configuration manual. (Figuring that I'd already installed HUBWATCH
with VMSINSTAL, etc., that was all that there was to it.)

Yes...a pointer in the OTHER documentation to the INSTALL/CONFIG for
setup (i.e. an INDEX entry in the OTHER manuals that sed:

    DECagent 90 - set-up - (See Installation/Configuration manual)
    DEChub900 - DECagent90 use in (See Installation/Configuration manual)
    DECbridge 90 - use in DEChub 900 (See Installation/Configuration
    manual)

Would have got me frustrated (because I'd need to get the udder manual)
but it would have also clearly spelled out where to go to fix it.... u
    c?

    Can u 4ward this to a writer?

    Thanks...

That's good feedback. I've forwarded it to the writers.

Actually, if you get a hold of the Install config manual, it should be pretty
easy to find what you want. (in either the Table of Contents or the Index).

I understand why you'd want a more specific reference in the Use book and we'll
certainly take a look at the suggestion. The real problem is avoiding a wrong
reference. The books often change up to the last minute and it becomes a small
nightmare to check specific page/chapter references. Sometimes we end up with an
unpleasant choice of having a non-specific reference or a wrong one. I'm not
sure which one is worse.

We'll have to give this one thought.

I'll put a reference in the index for this version of the HUBwatch for
Windows Use manual pointing to the Install/Config book.

    Thanks
