1267.0. "V3 Windows=no need for bridges?" by ANGLIN::MILLER () Tue Aug 02 1994 11:10

    Hi,

    I am new to the Hubwatch world. I just have a quick question from a
    customer.

    He has heard that when he gets Hubwatch V3.0 for Windows, he will NOT
    need a Decbridge90 or Decbridge90FL to manage his Decrepeater90FA's and
    Decrepeater90C's. Is this true? I didn't see any previous relative notes,
    but could have easily missed one.

    Thanks,

    Dale

His DECrepeater 90s must still be installed into a DEChub 90 or DEChub 900.

If DECrepeaters are installed into DEChub 90 , he MUST also have ;

	1)  	a DECagent 90 installed into the DEChub 90 , no DECbridge 90
		required unless HUB connection to another segment is needed.

	2)	Hubwatch for Windows

If DECrepeaters are installed into DEChub 900 then nothing but HUBwatch for
Windows is needed to enable Hubwatch management of the DECrepeater 90's.

A very good online reference point for more information is at;

    So I can't manage the remote Dechub90/Decrepeater90FA/Decrepeater90C/
    Decserver90TL's-the ones connected to the other end of the fiber across
    the street from this side's Dechub90/Decrepeater90FA without
    using a Decbridge90FL in place of this side's Decrepeater90FA? (also
    including a Decagent90, of course)

    Also, is this just a function of V3 for Windows, or does it exist in
    earlier releases as someone local mentioned today.

That's correct. You need either a DECbridge 90/90FL or a DECagent 90 in the hub
across the street to manage the repeaters. I suggest you replace the
DECrepeater 90FA with a DECbridge 90FL. This will let you connect the fiber to
the hub and give you repeater management capabilities through the DECagent 90 in
the first hub. The only thing you lose is the AUI port of the repeater.
