I have a customer who want to use the DECbridge 900MX to connect multiple thickwire backbones together. In order to do this, they need more than 2 AUI ports. I though we could use the DETTR-BA to adapt the twisted pair ports back to AUI, but on calling DECSALE, I was told this was not supported. Can someone please tell me WHY it isn't supported? Is this simply because this configuration hasn't been tested & qualified?

I think it is because the DETTR is not a NAC-product. This product is the result from the ALPHA-systems group. I don't know if it is still the case but orriginally we had some ALPHA- systems who had only ethernet-tp outputs. To allow these systems to connect to other media types DETTR-**'s were included. DETTR is a Allied Telesis repeater: DETTR-BB = AT-MR121T (RJ45-AUI) DETTR-AB = AT-MR122T (RJ45-BNC) P.

So, the question is, who would be responsible for certify this for this type of application?

I have proposed this to a customer to convert/repeat his RJ45 to BNC on the DB900MX. The question is, what does NOT SUPPORTED mean ? That it doesn't work ? I doubt it. I think you can bring the problem back to a "it's not our product, we don't support it" attitude. One thing that you have to take into account is that it adds a repeater in the repeater count. The other option is to use the E0-TWIST-01, wich is also a convertor but it uses a separate calculator-like powersuply. So this isn't the most elegant solution. You can find this option in the Open DECconnect Application Guide (p.5-35). Rgds.....p.

"Not supported" means if there is a problem, Digital won't investigate a solution to the problem... |
