1242.0. "DECRepeater 90FA documentation " by RDGENG::GREID (Bang that head that doesn't Bang !) Thu Jul 21 1994 06:09

Can someone give me a pointer to the installation and configuration
manual for the DECrepeater 90FA as I cannot find anything and we had
three arrive recently but without any documentation.

Is the following configuration legal, I suspect I have something wrong
here as the remote 90FA doesn't appear to be passing any traffic.

Area 44 Lan         DECHUB 90        ** Local Hub **
AUI     ====>  DR90FA (slot 8)

\/
F/O
/\
/  \
||
||
Thinwire	<====	DECHUB 90        ** Remote Hub **
Segment	       DR90FA (slot 8)
|
|--- DECserver 90TL (slot 2)
|
|___ DECrepeater 90T (slot 1)

All LEDs are on , on the local DR90FA, including the traffic LED which I
guess is because of the AUI port on the Area 44 Lan. The remote DR90FA
however powers up with all LEDs on except the traffic LED and then the
light goes out on port 1. What have I configured incorrectly and what
do the LEDs mean ? Alternatively please point me to the manual.

Giles.

1242.1Reversed the F/O connection maybe?ROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterThu Jul 21 1994 09:5215
Giles,

The port 1 LED (and the link status LED below it) should both come on if you
have proper connectivity to the fiber. The port 2 LED is for the AUI port. The
port status LEDs (labeled "1" and "2") should operate like the port LEDs on a
90C or 90T, that is they will be off when there is no connection to the port, on
when there is a connection, and flash when the port is management partitioned.
The link status LED for port 1 (the LED labeled with the interlinked ovals, like
a chain link) is connected to the optical hardware and indicates that a properly
terminated optical signal is driving the fiber input connector (the circle and
the arrow pointing into it).

Sorry, but I don't have a pointer to the docs online.

1242.3Faulty unit was the causeRDGENG::GREIDBang that head that doesn't Bang !Thu Jul 21 1994 11:457

The problem I had turned out to be a faulty DECrepeater 90FA, so please
ignore my original note.

Seems my configuration is legal.

Giles.
