1237.0. "Decbridge 900 crashes!!" by GIDDAY::COOPER () Wed Jul 20 1994 01:58

Hi,

Have a customer that have a couple of Decbridge 9000-MX's crashing
intermittently - see below for the dump information. This is happening
on more than one bridge.

They appear to be running the latest firmware, i.e. V1.2.1.

Any known problems with this version and any fixes.

Below is a copy of the listing from the console of the dumped 900MX.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve
CSC Sydney.

1237.1Looks like a known problem...NACAD2::KRISHNAThu Jul 21 1994 11:3513
    There has been some known problems with v1.2.1 of the DECbridge 900MX
    firmware. The problems show up if you are using IP fragmentation of
    large frames originating at the FDDI interface destined for the
    ethernets. We have seen the error you have reported while analyzing
    the above problem.

    This problem is fixed in the next version v1.3.* (60 day upgrade) of the
    DECbridge 900MX firmware, which I believe would be available by the
    first week of August or so. If your need is urgent, we do have a fix
    for the IP fragmentation problem now (v1.2.2) let me know and we can
    work out a way to get the image to you.

1237.2Bridge crash least of worries.CGOS01::DMARLOWEHave you been HUBbed lately?Thu Jul 21 1994 11:4615
    On a customer site, we were able to crash a DB 900 in less than
    5 minutes. Our problem went beyond that however. After the bridge
    repeatedly crashed and came back up several times, the MAM said
    enough of this sh*t and went through a reset to factory. That cured
    all problems of the bridge crashing as all backplane connections
    were toast and there were no more IP packets to fragment so the
    bridge never crashed after that. 8^)

    Only had to deal with 50 ticked off UNIX users in the geophysical
    department.  8^(

    Patch works as we are now at 28+ days with no crashes and happy
    users.

1237.3Where/how do we get v1.2.2 of DECbridge 900MX ?GO4GUT::NASHTTrevor Nash, CSC, Sydney DTN 730-7247Sun Jul 24 1994 22:3813
Krishna,

How do we get v1.2.2 of DECbridge 900MX ?

Do you want an IPMT raised ?

This problem is preventing a network rollout based on these bridges at a large
University site.

Thanks,

Trevor
