1222.1 | CAT 5 UTP about the best you can get | TOOK::ALBRIGHT | Born to DECserver | Wed Jul 13 1994 15:31 | 9 |
| Actually, twisted pair could give you better performance. Take care in
how you pair the signals. Putting RxD and TxD on the same pair can
give you crosstalk problems up the wazoo. From the MMJ pinout
standpoint I suggest you pair pins 1-6, 2-3, and 4-5. I would also
suggest you not go over 38.4 Kbaud (57.6 Kbaud might work but is
stretching a little).

1222.2 | How about a 1000' spool of BC16E | OURGNG::RIGGEN | BP says wampum from quantum good deal | Thu Jul 14 1994 15:05 | 5 |
| Order a H8240-00 1000' spool of BC16E type cable. then cut to length required
add a Crimp tool H8241-00, and a bag of MMJ adapters H8820-00.

1222.3 | Permament or temporary? | CSOA1::TEATER | RCDD - Fight the Good Fight | Fri Jul 29 1994 02:14 | 15 |
| I assume you will be connecting thehubs with thinwire? So, why not
configure it using an OPEN DECconnect faceplate, H3111-C, at each end.
Use either cat 3 or cat 5 cable, terminate in a H3112-GV 8 pin jack
(referred to wrongly as a RJ45). You can terminate the thinwire in the
H3114-AB connector.
Use BC16M cables to get from the faceplate to the thinwire port at both
ends. Use a BN24J-xx at one end and a BN24H-xx at the other end for
the control lines. This will create the cross-over the same as a
BC16E.
The H8240 cable is not suitable in any kind permament installation
where the cable is not easily replaced (i.e. in ceilings, walls, etc).

1222.4 | THANKS! | VAXRIO::ROLF | Vaporware Design Specialist | Tue Aug 02 1994 16:54 | 17 |
| Well, I used the cat. 5 cable I happened to have a spool of and crimped
the MMP right on it. The crimping was a bit tricky, because I didn't
have the right kind of plugs (the ones for solid wire) but it came out
OK in the end.
Now I just found out that the customer hasn't really got his DECagent90 and
HUbwatch yet, so he isn't using that cable yet...
The suggestion of -.1 we used some time ago in a remote side, except we
wired the "behind the wall" cable in crossover manner, so we could use
the non-crossover cables we had between faceplates and HUBs.
Thanks again for all the suggestions!
